5 February: VIP and Press Preview by invitation only 11:00 am – 9:00 pm
6 – 7 – 8 February: Open to the public 11:00 am – 7:00 pm
Galleria Eugenia Delfini returns to Arte Fiera Bologna for the second time, taking part in the Pittura XXI section curated by Ilaria Gianni, and presenting two Italian painters: Lorenzo Modica (b. 1988, Rome) and Pier Paolo Perilli (b. 1974, Rome).
For the fair, the two artists present works on canvas and nylon in various sizes, painted in oil and acrylic. Their practices range between Perilli’s dreamlike, fairy-tale imagery and Modica’s more abstract and poetic visual language.
Known for his process-based paintings that move between abstraction and figuration, Modica combines traditional formal exploration (of color, shape, surface, and line, as well as figure-ground relationships, scale, and two-dimensional space), with approaches drawn from other media, including drawing, comics, collage, and advertising. He also draws on a wide range of sources, from musical improvisation and comics to philosophy, road signs, and art history, to explore autobiographical elements such as vulnerability, self-irony, emotionality, and doubt.
On the other hand, Perilli’s figurative work focuses on the construction and narration of stories depicting a world dense with tension, suspended between secrets and terror, violence and splendors. While not belonging to any specific school nor adhering to a defined aesthetic, Perilli’s works recall late nineteenth and early twentieth-century art, evoking, for instance, the Pre-Raphaelites, James Ensor, and Leonora Carrington.
