Diana Anselmo

Diana Anselmo (1997, Palermo) is visual artist, performer and author Queer (him) and Deaf, activist.

Through his research, he re-elaborates and interweaves documents from historical archives, imagery related to his own body and semantic-visual symbolism to make Deaf culture a field of aesthetic research. In all the fields in which he moves – performing arts, visual arts, activism – there is the intention to question hearing systems of discrimination, regimes of aurality imposed by the hearing world and medicalization techniques that have fueled forms of control over the deaf body.

Anselmo has performed and exhibited in national and international institutions including in Rome at the MAXXI, Goethe Institut, Short Theatre; in Turin at the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Torinodanza festival, Exposed Festival, CAMERA; in Milan at the Triennale, DANAE Festival, BASE; MART, Rovereto; Scuola Piccola Zattere, Venice; Edinburgh Fringe Festival; Riksteatern Crea Stockholm; International Visual Theatre Paris and the Italian Cultural Institute of Paris; Centre d’Art Contemporain, Geneva; Culturgest, Lisbon; Synergeio Performing Arts Center, Cyprus; Theaterformen, Hannover.

Recently, his personal show at Galleria Eugenia Delfini Anselmo has been reviewed on Artforum and this summer/fall he will present his latest performance Pas Moi at the Santarcangelo Festival and the 57th annual CIMAM conference.
